Where are we heading as a nation? – Sarala Poobalan

http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/sideviews/article/where-are-we-heading-as-a-nation-sarala-poobalan

Where are we heading as a nation? Why is there a growing resentment against the non Malays especially the Christians? Why the sudden surge in resentment? Who created this?

All these while, the Bible regardless of the language were used in churches and used by the Christians maybe to propagate to other non Muslims.

Is there any documented proof that the Bibles were used to convert a Muslim?

So many questions with no answers.

Like many other things in this country, religion has been abused by all politicians. Just look at all the events and actions taken by the ministers who are supposed to be leaders for all Malaysians.

a) Children converted out of spite due to divorce. Remember, these children were conceived based on dreams of non Muslim parents. None of them dreamt of their child being a Muslim as a minor.

These children had a choice, a choice to convert if they wanted to when they are older. Anything can be said but the fact remains that the couple married as non Muslims and the children should be treated as an individual, not as a child.

No religion is above the law of the land. Your belief may say that yours is the word of God and it may be true in your eyes. If it is true, then the spouse that converted to be a Muslim must come out clean before he converts, not without the consent of the civil wedded wife.

That is being true to your religion and yourself. I would have respected these spouses if they did that. Now, it makes me suspicious of these men and the people who converted them.

Who is giving the religion a bad image?

b) Insulting Umno means insulting the Malays and the Rulers. Another misconception. The Malays are wonderful people and the Rulers so far has not interfered in our daily lives.

So, why would we want to insult them? The anger of the public is towards the people of Umno who flaunt the law and discriminate the people.

Umno maybe majority Malay and it is not Malays. Dyana Sofea is the classic case of a Malay who rejected Umno.

Has she insulted Malays and the Rulers? There were some wonderful Umno leaders who were and are still respected by the people like Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Hussein Onn or even Dr Mahathir when he isn't like Suarez (biting when he can't get what he wants), and what do we, the non Malays, get in return?

a) Cow heads being thrown in our compounds despite knowing the fact the the cow is a sacred animal amongst the Hindus. A cow is sacred to a Hindu but it is not a forbidden animal.

If the person who threw the cow head thought he can offend a Hindu in this manner shows his lack of understanding the Hindu faith. Sacred in this sense being respected because the cow gives human a lot more than what it receives. Throwing a cow head to a person's compound reflects the lack of good manners and bad religious teaching.

The minister, instead of condemning the action says "serves you right". Is the the kind of remark you as a minister for all Malaysians say?

As a Minister, you must condemn this action. Remember, when chosen as a minister, you no longer wear a party hat, you wear a Malaysian hat. Learn from the young lady, Hannah Yeoh.

b) Bigots and extremist are not punished for their hurtful remarks and sentiments that affects the non Muslims. Now, if a non Muslim said that, can you imagine the reaction. Why? Have you put yourselves in a non Muslim's shoe?

Wouldn't these remarks cause any discomfort to the non Muslims?  Are the non Muslims supposed to forgive all the time or are these remarks allowed with ulterior motives?

c) Holy books which are used for non Muslim purposes are confiscated. How can a word in a Bible which has no access to a Muslims affect a Muslim? Trust me, many non Muslims who are non Christians have never read a Bible, even in English.

If it does not affect them, how can it affect the Muslims? Never mind about this fact. Is there any respect for the East Malaysians? What did they do? Why can't they have their rights? Why are their rights being undermined? Why must there be separate rules for East and West Malaysia? Are we not Malaysians?

And the list can go on and on.

Malaysia is our country and I want Malaysia to be the Malaysia I heard of and I grew up with. It is alright to be proud of your religion.

We are all proud of our religion and think that it is God's words. It is not wrong. You believe it just as others believe that theirs is also the word of God.

It is wrong when that belief is imposed on others, and worse still threatening like what is done by Isma, Perkasa and some NGOs including some individuals.

Lies after lies cannot hide the truth. You can lie but you cannot hide. You can lie to gain support, but you are answerable to your creator.

I know it is not National Day. I hope we will concentrate on making this country to stand tall in the eyes of the world.

We want to irradiate corruption, we want wealth distribution to all Malaysians.

Envy is fine, but hatred is not. Learn to be the best. If you find that the Chinese are better in business, learn from them not spite them.

In short,  the leaders should be leaders for Malaysia, not a party. Once chosen as a minister, you are the minister of the people of Malaysia, not a party representative.

Our cabinet has swelled but the results are far from positive. Do not deny the rakyat what is due to them because the results may not reflect what you aim for.

This is my country and I will defend it my way, not the way you expect me to do it. Do not step into my boundaries because I don't and won't step into yours.

We will come together as a nation but we will defend our rights in terms of practising religion because the constitution allows us to do so.

I say this, not to belittle any religion. I have great respect for all. This is because I am created by my creator with brains. I will not condemn any religion. I will learn about the other religions requirements and needs to understand my friends better.

Ramadhan is around the corner. I sincerely hope that everybody, regardless of their faith, use the three "R"s – recognise, respect, reflect.

Recognise that we have different beliefs, respect that belief and reflect on our action and words before it is said or done. – June 28, 2014.
