PENANG, Aug 12, 2014:

A student in a school here was threatened to be burned alive and boycotted for allegedly liking a pro-Israeli Facebook page.

The 17-year-old, however, claims he did not realise that he had “liked” the “I love Israel” page, of which a teacher had taken a screenshot of and uploaded it onto her Facebook profile on Aug 10, without the teenager’s knowledge.

“My student loves Israel? This makes me embarrassed,” the caption of the photo uploaded by the teacher, who lives at Simpang Ampat, Penang, read.

The photo then received comments from several other teachers and even students of the school calling for a boycott of the student with some posting threatening messages.

One female teacher wrote: “Kita bakor je. Hahaha” (Just burn him)

The Rakyat Post notes that the phrase “Kita bakor je”, is a popular quote from a comedy horror film entitled Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah which was directed by Mamat Khalid.

Another teacher, who holds a Universiti Sains Malaysia bachelor degree in fine arts called for the student to be “boycotted”.
“As a teacher I do not know this student. From today onwards, boycott, do not be friends or communicate with him. This statement annoys other people.”

According to Uthaya Media, Motivations and Publications Consultancy owner Uthaya Sankar SB who was informed of the news by a friend, the student is afraid of going to school as a result of the teacher’s behaviour.

“He is afraid he might be bullied, threatened, hit and even burnt.

“On behalf of the boy and his parents, we demand a public apology from the teachers,” he said in a statement today.

Failure to do, Uthaya warned, would see him reveal the names of those who threatened him.
He added that the boy’s parents had tried meeting the headmaster of the school today morning.
“They were told that the district education office would be handling the issue,”

A police report has also been lodged by the boy and his parents at the Bandar Tasek Mutiara police station at 2am yesterday.
