BANGALORE, July 19: The two sex predators didn’t stop with raping a 15-year-old nun after sedating her in a seminary at Hennur on Wednesday afternoon. They are suspected to have videographed their dastardly act. Then, they scribbled a warning on the wall. “We have videoed what we have done to you and your nude body. You should give us money. Else we will release the footage to TV channels,” read the warning on the inner wall in the ground floor of the two-storey building, police sources were quoted as having told the Times of India.
The next day, the assailants took it to the next level, and appeared to have challenged police. After the survivor approached police, they had the audacity to erase the warning written with red sketch pen even as the members of the investigation team was merely a few feet away. The scribbling remained on the wall when police were alerted on Thursday and arrived for investigation.
Around evening, the entire police team was in an inner room questioning the other inmates of the seminary, according to the Times of India report. “
Two men, both wearing white shirt and one of them heavily built and another lean man carrying a suitcase entered the hall. They used a spray to wipe out the message on the wall. They quickly vanished even as some neighbours caught a glimpse of them,” police sources were quoted as having said.
The seminary, Sisters of Holy Nativity, is located in Bhyreshvara Layout, near Hennur Bande, northeast of the software city. Police suspect the men who erased the message were the two culprits who had raped the girl. “The duo appeared to have known the premises very well and had come with the intention to rape the girl. “The victim says all that she remembers is that two youths barged into the room and sprayed some liquid on her face,” police said.
Police say they are investigating the incident from every angle. DCP N. Sateesh Kumar was reported to have said that there were nearly 200 workers at a construction site next door. “There were complaints against some of these men that they created nuisance in the area and harassed women in the locality. “However, using a spray that made the victim fall unconscious makes it doubtful that these men could have got hold of such a spray.” According to police sources, more than 50 locals with criminal record had been rounded up for questioning. “We asked them where they were at the time of offence. We verified their location by cross-checking with mobile towers and other material evidence. We will question more suspects today,” police sources said. There are a lot of foreigners, including Nigerians, in the locality and police are checking this angle, too.
“There are a plenty of people who seek contributions for charity as there are several Christian organisations in the area. Also Christians are in a majority here. All angles will be pursued,” said another police officer. He added there was still confusion over the exact time when the crime was committed as the girl could not clearly remember when it happened. Survivor counselled The girl has been visiting St John’s hospital for counselling. “She is mentally very disturbed and will take some more time to recover. She is not an inpatient, but visits the hospital for counselling,” a hospital spokesperson said.
