The Communication and Multimedia Ministry paid the full fee of RM88.13 million to three contractors that had failed to abide by their contract in a broadband project in Sabah and Sarawak, the first series of the 2014 Auditor-General's (A-G) report found. Esajadi Sdn Bhd, Jaring Communications Sdn Bhd and Celcom Axiata Berhad were hired to install 935.6 kilometres of fibre optic network in East Malaysia, but fell short of the target by 45.37 kilometres, according to the report that was tabled in Parliament today. "Checks by the audit through OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) tests showed that the real distance of the total fibre optic network for the three contractors was only 890.23 kilometres (95.2%), compared to the distance stipulated in the contract, which is 935.6 kilometres. "However, the full fee of RM88.13 million was paid to all three contractors," read the report.
