PRAI, July 13: Six siblings in Taman Cempedak, Tasek Gelugor, here, have sunk into the depths of misery since their father succumbed to a stroke two years ago. Their mother, who remarried a drug addict, has also disappeared since January. Noor Hamizah Basir, 22, who is the eldest of the six siblings, said she was now forced to take over as head of the family to support her younger siblings by working as a clerk in a factory. “Last January, my mother (who has become a drug addict herself) and her husband were arrested by police. “We have failed to keep track of their whereabouts although there was news that she had been released,” she told reporters at her home here today. She said with an income of about RM900 a month, it was not enough to cover all their expenses as she also had to pay for a home loan of RM220 per month in her mother’ name, in addition to paying the utility bills. Noor Hamizah said her sister Noor Syazwanizzah, 21, was working at a supermarket nearby, but her income was just enough for her personal use. “My income is not enough as I also bear the expenses of my four other siblings, who are studying, namely Muhammad Nasrul, 19, who is studying at the National Youth Skills Institute in Bukit Mertajam, and a fourth sibling, Noor Syamimi, 16, who is in Form Four. “The fifth sibling, Noor Syazana, nine, is studying in Year Three, while my youngest brother, Muhammad Adam, five, is still in kindergarten.” Their late father was a retired Public Works Department employee and has a pension, but the money can only be withdrawn by their 41-year-old mother. “I worry what will happen if any of my siblings fall sick. Where will I go for money to take them to the clinic or buy medicine? “Prior to this, our home was almost auctioned off by the bank for not paying the instalments and the electricity was also cut. “Luckily, our uncle and aunt helped us, but I do not want to impose on them any more as they also have to pay for their own expenses.” Noor Hamizah hoped her mother would return home to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri together with them because the youngest one really missed her. Tasek Gelugor Member of Parliament Datuk Shabudin Yahaya, who visited the six siblings, said they could be adopted to ensure they got proper attention. 20 August 2014 Seorang kanak-kanak lelaki berusia empat tahun meninggal dunia setelah ditemui tidak sedarkan diri dalam kereta bapanya di kawasan letak kereta Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kuala Nerang, Kedah, hari ini. Mangsa, Muhammad Aqil Arfan Adnan dipercayai terperangkap lebih lapan jam dalam kereta Perodua Viva, sebelum ditemui bapanya Adnan Salleh, 40-an, yang merupakan guru agama sekolah itu pada 4 petang tadi, selepas habis waktu bekerja. Difahamkan, mangsa kemudiannya di bawa ke Hospital Kuala Nerang, namun disahkan telah meninggal dunia. Saudara mangsa, Soaid Adam, 45, berkata Adnan sepatutnya menghantar anaknya itu ke tadika kira-kira 150 meter dari tempatnya mengajar terlebih dahulu. Bagaimanapun dia dipercayai terlupa berbuat demikian dan tidak menyedari bahawa anak bongsu daripada empat beradik itu sedang tidur di kerusi penumpang bahagian belakang kereta itu, katanya. Soaid berkata biasanya Adnan bersama isterinya, Asiah Abu, 30-an, yang merupakan seorang guru di SMK Dato Syed Ahmad, Kuala Nerang dan anak mereka keluar dari rumah mereka di Kampung Padang Durian, Pendang kira-kira 6.45 pagi. "Tetapi hari ini, dia melalui jalan Naka kemudian menghantar isterinya dahulu lalu terus ke SMK Kuala Nerang, dia mungkin terlupa untuk hantar anaknya ke tadika," katanya ketika ditemui di Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah (HSB) di Alor Setar, hari ini. Wong Kok Yew, 48, said his mother, Agnes Liu Soo Thye, 76, died on March 16 after having been admitted to the hospital about 9pm the previous day for a lung ailment. “About 5am the following day (March 16), one of four housemen who came to my mother’s bed, removed several wires roughly. “My mother, who was fast asleep, woke up in shock and started trembling, and the bed shook for about 10 minutes as she tried to withstand the pain. “The readings on all the monitoring equipment dropped and the doctor confirmed that my mother had died,” he told reporters at the Barisan Nasional (BN) Complaints and Service Centre here. Wong, who operates a Chinese traditional medicine outlet, said the houseman removed the wires because the patient on the adjacent bed was in a critical condition and in need of the monitoring equipment. “My mother was old and had soft and sensitive skin. Surely, she would have been shocked when the wires attached to her body were removed roughly. “I was already unhappy because my mother had screamed in pain when the housemen took her blood sample earlier,” he said. Wong said he lodged a complaint with the hospital and sought an explanation over the incident, but there had been no response. He said he would consider suing the hospital if it did not respond. If the magistrate has reasons to believe that he or she is a destitute person, an order can be made to temporarily admit the person to a welfare home for one month, pending a report from the officer. The magistrate could also extend the order for a further period of three years. “Let’s hope they actually carry out what they’ve said they will do. It’s not about who wins or loses, it’s about us addressing the needs of those less fortunate,” Munirah said. Putrajaya has postponed its unilateral ban on soup kitchens from July 7 to next month, but Kuala Lumpur's charities say they will continue providing food for the homeless and poor. Absence of leadership will lead to disaster for Malaysia, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today, using Brazil's shocking 1-7 loss to Germany in the World Cup semi-finals as an analogy.

Bernama reported him as saying that Brazil's loss to Germany could be attributed to its lack of leadership in keeping its backline together.

"When I watched Brazil, their defence was all over the place. I put it down to lack of leadership. There was no proper leadership," he was quoted as saying in Putrajaya today.

"If that could happen to a football team, imagine what would happen to a country that does not have effective leadership... the answer is, we will end up like Brazil.

Brazil, who was one of the favourites to win the coveted cup this year, was kicked out of the race after its loss to Germany in this morning's semi-final match.

Najib was speaking during the official presentation of the Perdana Fellows Programme (PFP) participants to the Cabinet.

The PFP is coordinated by the Youth and Sports Ministry to provide Malaysians with an opportunity to work under the supervision of ministers between six weeks and six months.

Najib said the PFP could get ready a leadership line-up for the future.

"So that when the time comes, we will have many trained and experienced leaders who are capable of carrying the nation's leadership baton to a higher level.

"Our success does not only depend on the scroll of certificate that are being possessed but also on the level of matured thinking in taking action and interacting, which can only be acquired through experience.

"There is no place better than acquiring that experience together with cabinet members, who are national leaders, as it cannot probably be obtained elsewhere," he said.

The prime minister hoped all the participants could use the opportunity as extensively as possible and interact with their other friends as well as advise them not to work in silo but across the various agencies and ministries.

"So, by that way, we can act as one government.

"In a world that has become more challenging and the environment more complex, it requires us to understand with more clarity and, if we understand, Insha’Allah, we will become more successful people," he said.

This year, 84 participants were selected out of 1,400 applicants from among students and graduates aged below 30, and will be placed at various ministries.– July 9, 2014.

Malaysians today poured scorn on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's warning that a lack of leadership could lead to disaster in the country, with many pointing out that Malaysia has been without a leader for some time now.

On social networking site Twitter, Malaysians poked fun at the prime minister, who had used Brazil's shocking 1-7 loss to Germany in the World Cup semi-finals as an analogy.

He was referring to Brazil's star player Neymar, who had scored four goals in the World Cup tournament before injuring his back during the game against Colombia and was subsequently ruled out of further games while Thiago Silva – the team's captain and central defender – was suspended after collecting two yellow cards.

The latest to point out the premier's weak leadership is the Asianomics Country Report which painted a bleak outlook for the country, predicting failure for the second phase of Putrajaya's economic transformation plan due to Najib's lack of will.

“A weakened prime minister heads up a political party called by one cynic 'a universe of its own' whose most ambitious goal appears to be for its members to continue to loot the treasury through rent-seeking.
