Church wants conversions annulled

A link shared at J.I.M Facebook Page on August 17, 2014 at 02:09PM via IFTTT:

http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2014/08/17/church-wants-conversions-annulled/

PITAS: Christian leaders say that the Sabah religious authorities have been asked to “annul without further delay” the conversions of a group of Orang Asal who were tricked into converting to Islam in this state.

“No action has been taken on the matter,” said the president of the Protestant Church of Sabah, Reverend Jensey Mojuin, in his speech at the Mamangkis ceremony of the Indigenous People in Pitas August 14.

Pitas, one of the “dog ears” in the map of Sabah, is reportedly the poorest province in the Federation.

“Three months have passed since the “shameful” conversion of 64 people, including children, from three villages – Kampung Maliau Layung, Dowokon and Sosop.

“Although a police report has been made, no concrete action has been taken,” said Mojuin.

He said the lack of action only means that “extremist groups” that did the conversion “enjoy the support and protection of some powerful people.”

He added that the group was reportedly an Islamic NGO (non-governmental organisation) based in Selangor well known for its religious extremism.

Mojuin described the mass conversions in Pitas, as a fraudulent and unfair act that threatens the peace and religious harmony in Sabah that has existed for so long. The majority of those converted belonged to his congregation.

33 villagers who “converted” claim that they had been tricked into converting by this group.

They were asked to present themselves at the Pitas mosque on New Year’s Day, supposedly to receive financial aid.

Evidence that they agreed to become Muslims

They claim that they were promised RM800 per person, but there was only RM100 in the envelopes they were given after they signed several documents.

They said that they were illiterate, and that no one explained to them the purpose of the forms.

Mojuin added, that these forms are now being used as evidence that they have agreed to become Muslims.

Mamangkis, which is the war cry of the indigenous people, has now become the clarion call for the revival of the Christian religion and religious liberty.

Gereja menuntut aktiviti “penukaran” agama dihentikan

Stop classifying Bumi Christians as Muslims, Sabah church tells NRD

A link shared at J.I.M Facebook Page on August 14, 2014 at 10:09PM via IFTTT:

http://www.themalaymailonline.com/malaysia/article/stop-classifying-bumi-christians-as-muslims-sabah-church-tells-nrd
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — A Sabah church called on the National Registration Department (NRD) today to rectify the problem of Bumiputera Christians with “bin” or “binti” in their names being wrongly classified as Muslims in their MyKads.

Sidang Injil Borneo (SIB) Sabah president Rev Datuk Jerry Dusing said the church lodged a complaint with NRD two years ago for 162 such cases in Sabah, but was told that no further action could be taken because the files were lost.

“The JPN must desist from this Islamisation drive through changing the religious status in the MyKad of these Christians,” Dusing said in a statement today, using the Malay acronym for the NRD.

“We also wish to call on the authorities to rein in aggressive Islamisation in Sabah by overzealous ‘dakwah’ (evangelistic) elements from the peninsula through conversion by dubious means such as intimidation, inducement and deception,” he added.

Dusing said the wrong classification of Christians as Muslims in their MyKads has prevented them from getting married legally, which in turn prevented the registration of the birth of their children, as well as the children’s registration in schools and applications for their own identity cards.

“They have also been told by JPN that the department would only rectify their religious status if they went to the Shariah Court to get a declaration that they are not Muslims. It is most ludicrous to subject Christians to the dictates of the Shariah Court,” he said.

Dusing stressed on Sabahans’ right to freedom of religion that Sabah Catholic Archbishop John Wong had raised at the mamangkis gathering organised by the Perpaduan Anak Negeri (PAN) Sabah in Papar last Saturday.

“As we prepare to celebrate the 51st anniversary of the formation of Malaysia on 16 September, we wish to remind the government that the cornerstone of Sabah’s 20-point conditions to the Malaysia Agreement is anchored on freedom of religion,” he said.

News reports surfaced last January of Borneo natives being coerced and duped into embracing Islam, leading Christian group PAN Sabah to accuse Muslim extremists from the peninsula of oppressing Bumiputera Christians in the East Malaysian state.

In the so-called Project IC, which was investigated by a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) probing Sabah’s massive illegal immigrant problem, Muslim foreigners were purportedly given citizenship in exchange for their votes in order to keep the ruling government in power.

'So Christmas carol with 'Israel' also seditious?'

MCA: Police probe into sedition case of teen is ridiculous
http://www.therakyatpost.com/news/2014/08/14/mca-police-probe-sedition-case-teen-ridiculous/

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14, 2014:

MCA has criticised the Penang police over its unnecessary investigation into a case involving a Form Five student under the Sedition Act.

Calling it totally ridiculous, the party’s Religious Harmony Bureau chairman Datuk Ti Lian Ker said the public expected the police to investigate the teachers involved in publicising the incident for inciting physical violence against the student as this could have led to murder, disfigurement and injuries.

“While the bureau notes that the Penang Education Department has taken measures to give a warning to the teachers who had implored that the teenager, who had accidentally clicked ‘like’ on the ‘I love Israel’ Facebook page, be burnt alive, we are taken aback that police have questioned the student under Section 4 (1) (a) of the Sedition Act.

“This investigation is totally ridiculous, more so coming from the police in Penang, which has a Jewish cemetery believed to be the oldest in Asia. It will further erode the image of the authorities among the public,” he said in a statement today.

Ti said that the sedition probe against the 17-year-old begs the question if any entity, be it tangible or intangible with the word “Israel” in it, will be deemed seditious.

“For example, will those, including children carollers, singing the chorus for the Christmas carol The First Noel, which ends with Born is the King of Israel, also be subject to questioning under the Sedition Act?

“Will radio and television channels broadcasting The First Noel in its programmes or movie channels also be probed for sedition?”

Ti said such action by the police against a top scholar only added to the victimisation of the student and the perception, whether real or imagined, by non-Muslims regarding selective persecution of religious minorities.

He also expressed concern over the earlier report by The Rakyat Post where schoolmates of the teenager were reported to be bullying and spitting at him in school while another student was beaten up over a mistaken identity.

“MCA’s fears that the teachers’ call to burn the boy will lead to victimisation appear to be coming true.”

He said the authorities should instead focus on never instigating violence and harassment.

He said while MCA wholeheartedly opposed the atrocities committed by the Zionist regime against Palestinian Muslims and Christians on the Gaza Strip, it urged the authorities and educators to practise common sense and not misuse the boycott call against McDonald’s and Starbucks and resort to vigilantism..

The Aug 10 incident led a teacher to screen capture and upload the image depicting the boy’s liking of an “I love Israel” page without the boy’s consent.

Two other teachers commented, calling for a boycott over the student, with one suggesting to burn the boy alive.

Penang teen who ‘liked’ ‘I love Israel’ Facebook page under sedition probe

NIBONG TEBAL, Aug 13 — A Form Five student who was threatened with immolation for allegedly liking an “I love Israel” Facebook page is now under investigation for sedition.

The 17-year-old who sought police aid two days ago  was called in for questioning today by the South Seberang Perai police.

“We are investigating him under Section 4 (1) (a) of the Sedition Act,” Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi told reporters at the South Seberang Perai district police headquarters Hari Raya open house here.

“In his statement, he claimed that he had accidentally clicked ‘like’ on the page,” he said, referring to the teen’s recorded statement.

Abdul Rahim added that the police had questioned yesterday a teacher from the same school as the student who had allegedly linked the teen to the “I love Israel” Facebook page.

The sedition law prescribes a maximum fine of RM5,000 or a jail sentence of three years for a convicted first-time offender, or both, and raises the jail term to five years for subsequent offences.

The fifth former filed a police report after a teacher from his school allegedly circulated a screen captured image of the controversial post, which prompted attacks from other Facebook users to cut off ties with the student and to “boycott”.

Another teacher purportedly from the same school, went a step further, leaving on the first teacher’s Facebook page that is accessible only to friends a message that read: “Kita bakor je hahaha [We just burn hahaha]”.

South Seberang Perai district police chief ACP Shafein Mamat said more teachers and students from the boy’s school will be called to give their statements.

“We are investigating both aspects, one of him liking the controversial page and another on the threats against him,” Shafein said.

The student has since deactivated his Facebook account.

Leader: ISIS is ‘Systematically Beheading Children' in 'Christian Genocide'

http://cnsnews.com/mrctv-blog/barbara-boland/leader-isis-systematically-beheading-children-christian-genocide

"Christianity in Mosul is dead, and a Christian holocaust is in our midst," said Mark Arabo, a Californian businessman and Chaldean-American leader. In an interview with CNN's Jonathan Mann, he called what's happening in Iraq a "Christian genocide" and said "children are being beheaded, mothers are being raped and killed, and fathers are being hung."

"Right now, three thousand Christians are in Iraq fleeing to neighboring cities," he told Mann. Arabo is calling on the international community to follow France's lead and offer the Christians of Iraq asylum.

"You're startling me with the severity of what you're describing," the CNN host said. "You said they are --- beheading children?"

"They are systematically beheading children," Arabo repeated slowly. "And mothers and fathers. The world hasn't seen an evil like this for generations."

"There's actually a park in Mosul where they actually beheaded children and put their heads on a stick... this is crimes against humanity. They are doing the most horrendous, the most heart-breaking crimes that you can think of."
UPDATE: Arabo isn't the only one going public with horror stories of the atrocities being committed. An Iraqi member of Parliament and a Syrian Orthodox Archbishop have also broadcast tales of "genocide."
Mann asked about the ISIS letter sent to Christians in Mosul, demanding that they either convert to Islam, pay a fine or be put to "death by the sword."
"It's very clear they are killing people, but are Christians managing to escape by paying a fine?" he asked.
Arabo reports that after Christians pay the fine, the fighters take the Christian wives and children "and make them their wives - so it's really convert, or die."
This is a tweet that reportedly shows Yazidi children who escaped the fighters by fleeing to the mountains, but have died from lack of food and water there:
A quick scan of Youtube shows the truth of what Arabo is saying - there are gruesome videos of heads on spikes, and many of live beheadings (one poor Christian is forced to say the Shahada 'there is no God but Allah and Muhammad is his Prophet' and then beheaded anyway.)
Warning: don't google these things unless you have a strong stomach.
"They are absolutely killing every Christian they see," Arabo said of ISIS. "This is absolutely a genocide in every sense of the word. They want everyone to convert, and they want sharia law to be the law of the land."

Anglican priest emotional as he tells of Christian child's murder by ISIS

A link shared at J.I.M Facebook Page on August 10, 2014 at 03:24PM via IFTTT:

http://www.anglicannews.org:80/news/2014/08/anglican-vicar-of-baghdad-“child-i-baptised-cut-in-half-by-isis”.aspx

By ACNS staff
The five-year-old son of a founding member of Baghdad’s Anglican church was cut in half during an attack by the Islamic State1 on the Christian town of Qaraqosh.
In an interview today, an emotional Canon Andrew White told ACNS that he christened the boy several years ago, and that the child’s parents had named the lad Andrew after him.
“I’m almost in tears because I’ve just had somebody in my room whose little child was cut in half,” he said. “I baptised his child in my church in Baghdad2. This little boy, they named him after me – he was called Andrew.”
The fact that Andrew’s brother was named George after St George’s Anglican Church in Iraq’s capital demonstrates the strong ties the family had to the church there. The boy’s father had been a founder member of the church back in 1998 when the Canon had first come to Baghdad. Canon White added, “This man, before he retired north to join his family was the caretaker of the Anglican church.”
Though the move north should have proved safer for the Iraqi Christian family, the Islamic State made sure that it became a place of terror. “This town of Qaraqosh is a Christian village so they knew everybody there was part of their target group,” said Canon White. “They [the Islamic State] attacked the whole of the town. They bombed it, they shot at people.”
The Islamic State group captured Qaraqosh overnight Wednesday/Thursday after the withdrawal of Kurdish forces.
The boy’s family, along with many other townspeople, have now fled to Irbil. However, news reports suggest this may be the Islamic State’s next destination.
Anglicans at the forefront of relief
The violent takeover of parts of Iraq by the Islamic State is threatening to bring about what the UN has said would be a “humanitarian catastrophe” in the beleaguered nation.
Canon Andrew White said that Anglicans there have been working hard to provide a lot of support for the Christians who have fled Mosul and Nineveh to the north, as well as the many other minority groups targeted by the Islamic State.
“Anglicans are literally at the forefront of bringing help in this situation and there’s no-one else,” he said adding that the church is supplying much-needed food, water, accommodation and other relief items thanks to financial contributions from supporters overseas. The church's activities are led by a Muslim, Dr Sarah Ahmed.
“We need two things: prayer and money. With those two we can do something. Without those we can do nothing.”
Those wanting to donate can do so at http://frrme.org/. As regards prayer, Canon White said, “I have three ‘P’s that I always mention which is for Protection, Provision and Perseverance. We need protection, we need to provide for those people and we need to keep going.”
It’s clear from social media posts on Facebook and Twitter that members of the Anglican Communion right across the world are praying for this situation. Many have also indicated their support for persecuted Christians in Iraq by changing their social media avatars to the Arabic symbol for ‘N’ denoting Nazarene which ISIS has been using to identify Christian homes.
Leaders speak out
In recent days, Anglican leaders from countries including Egypt, Wales, Brazil and South Africa have all expressed their dismay at the situation unfolding in Iraq.
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, issued the following statement today on the situation in Iraq, shortly before he travelled from the Philippines to Papua New Guinea.
“The horrific events in Iraq rightly call our attention and sorrow yet again. Christians and other religious minorities are being killed and face terrible suffering.
“What we are seeing in Iraq violates brutally people’s right to freedom of religion and belief, as set out under Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is extremely important that aid efforts are supported and that those who have been displaced are able to find safety. I believe that, like France, the United Kingdom’s doors should be open to refugees, as they have been throughout history.
“The international community must document human rights abuses being committed in northern Iraq so that future prosecutions can take place. It is important and necessary for the international community to challenge the culture of impunity which has allowed these atrocities to take place.
“With the world’s attention on the plight of those in Iraq, we must not forget that this is part of an evil pattern around the world where Christians and other minorities are being killed and persecuted for their faith. Only this week I received an email from a friend in Northern Nigeria about an appalling attack on a village, where Christians were killed because of their faith in Jesus Christ. Such horrific stories have become depressingly familiar in countries around the world, including Syria, South Sudan and the Central African Republic.
“We must continue to cry to God for peace and justice and security throughout the world. Those suffering such appalling treatment in Iraq are especially in my prayers at this time.”
Other Christian leaders have also spoken up about the situation in Iraq including Roman Catholics, who, in England and Wales, have designated Sunday, 9 August, as a Day of Prayer for Christians in Iraq. The Syrian Orthodox Patriarch yesterday wrote to the UN, following an emergency meeting of Patriarchs, calling on the UN Security Council to “fulfil their responsibilities in stopping this genocide”.

A Picture Posted On Facebook Caused Three Innocents Burnt Alive In Their Home

GUJRANWALA: A strife apparently caused by Social Media has claimed three precious lives.

Mob burning Ahmadi properties

According to reports 27th of July Sunday evening, a grandmother Bushra Bibi and her two young granddaughters were burned alive in their homes when an angry mob attacked their village over alleged blasphemy charges on another boy. This attack was caused by a picture posted on Facebook. The two young girls who were burnt alive were seven-years-old and eight-months old. These innocent burnt alive belonged to the Ahmadi community.

Pakistani Social Media has been for the most part been used more and more to discuss and protest against religious beliefs. All the while major issue of the blasphemy law has also been in discussion on the social media. A Pakistani lawyer Yassir Latif Hamdani suggested that,” anything that goes online could draw the unwanted attention of extremists.” “The immediate aftermath has been shock and expressions of outrage but soon it will die down and be forgotten as inevitably any tragedy in recent years has in this country. For the Ahmadi Muslim community it has been another incident in a long list of violent outrages against them in the last four years,” he said.

The Pakistani government has also put close monitoring observation on the spread of blasphemy online, initiating monitoring services for sites like Google and Yahoo in 2010.

The trouble started for Bushra Bibi when an 18-year-old Ahmadi man named Aqib Saleem uploaded a picture of a shrine in Mecca with a partially naked woman on top. Soon after his friend alerted the authorities in the neighborhood, subsequent to which an angry mob of nearly 1,000 people set the properties of Ahmadis on fire. And according to an international Human Rights organization, “There are credible reports in the media that Pakistani police stood by and did not intervene to protect those Ahmadiyya who were being targeted by this mob violence.

What is noteworthy that Gujranwala is chiefly populated by the Ahmadis, a minority religion. According to the Pakistani law, Ahmadis are not permitted to identify themselves as Muslim while they have been subjected to violent persecution for blasphemy in the past.

A spokesman of the Ahmadi community condemned the recent violence, claiming that,” the accused individual in question had his Facebook password stolen, which resulted in the image being posted.
