KUALA LUMPUR, July 21
The MCA political party is calling for the remains of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Flight MH17 victims to be returned to their families and for politicians not to spin the tragedy to benefit themselves. MCA vice-president and Social Development Committee chairman Senator Datin Paduka Senator Chew Mei Fun said she was disturbed and outraged upon reading news reports that the remains of the crash victims were tampered with and their personal belongings were stolen. She also referred to reports that the aircraft’s blackbox was taken and access to the crash site near Grabovo, in the Donetsk region was blocked by armed pro-Russian separatists. “No words can describe the disgust felt by team members of the Crisis Relief Squad of MCA upon reading that armed rebel forces had forcibly seized the remains of 196 from emergency workers, thereby preventing their release to the respective families; and that the said pro-Russian separatists are blocking rescue workers access to the crash site,” said Chew. She urged the parties detaining the bodies to observe international diplomacy, protocol, human rights and simple humanity by allowing and assisting international aid workers to conduct their investigations and further operations to search, recover equipment and identify the remains. “At the very least, they should empathise with the grief and loss of the next-of-kin. “Detaining the remains and the flight’s blackbox arey suspicious actions to take. “The culprits should be aware that this was a civilian passenger plane, no different from the other 14 international passenger airlines making up to 850 weekly two-way flights, when MH17 was shot down,” she said. She pointed out that neither Malaysia nor MAS were involved in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia and should not be dragged into its hostilities. “Like all peace-loving peoples, we urge for peace and an end to all violence which are disrupting and even taking the lives of the common folk in the region,” said Chew. Meanwhile, Wanita MCA National vice-chairman and Wanita MCA Selangor chairman Ong Chong Swen said that while prayers could be held for the dead, support and help should be offered to the living. “If it is indeed proven that Flight MH17 was shot down, we must severely condemn those responsible and call for swift action to be taken against them for their disregard of human lives! “In these trying times, we should abandoned our differences and unite together to seek justice for the innocent victims and their families by exerting international pressure on those guilty parties.” She continued that at this crucial moment, the eyes of the world were upon Malaysia and it must take steps to uphold justice for the victims. “Thus our government must act accordingly by condemning the recklessness and irresponsibility of the perpetrators. “However, it is also sad to note the actions of certain politicians who wish to use this tragedy to gain political benefit. Their actions are indeed truly another disaster for the nation.” Read more: http://ift.tt/1tsBRzF
