PETALING JAYA: A video of an Indonesian domestic helper claiming that she and a friend obtained a Malaysian Identity Card (IC), as well as BR1M payments, has gone viral on social media.

Almost a quarter of our population, 7.2 million people, were deemed eligible for the financial aid this year.

BR1M is meant to be a direct subsidy from the government to ensure that low-income households receive aid.

A total of RM5.2 billion will be distributed to applicants, with people in Selangor receiving the most at RM726 million.

The video shows an Indonesian domestic helper claiming that she received the BR1M cash handout of RM500 three months after she got a Malaysian IC.

“Without coming out with a single cent, I got an IC. I even got RM500,” she said.

Apparently, she got the IC from a ‘ketua kampung’ (village chief) in Kelana Jaya during a campaign.

She even related that her friend, who has been an illegal immigrant for the past 15 years, ‘miraculously’ got her blue IC as well as the BR1M aid.

A month ago, FMT reported that an Indonesian living illegally in Sabah, had papers claiming that he was Malaysian and had received the financial aid.

The person filming her dryly commented that her friend should not attempt to vote or she would be beaten up by the public as such incidents had occurred during the previous General Election.

Dr. Mahathir said : "adalah wajar untuk memberikan kad pengenalan kepada warga asing di Sabah jika mereka menetap di Malaysia selama bertahun-tahun dan hidup seperti orang tempatan." (Foreigner in Sabah suppose to be given Identity Card if they have lived in Malaysia for many years and lived in the way how local people live.)

"adalah menjadi dasar kerajaan mengiktiraf orang yang setia kepada negara ini", dan menurutnya "tidak adil untuk menafikan hak anak-anak mereka untuk bersekolah di Malaysia." (it is the government stand to declare people who are loyal to this country, and according to him, it is unfair to deny the rights of their children to study in Malaysia .)
