'More security personnel for Esszone if needed' - The Rakyat Post

KUANTAN, July 13: Datuk Seri Najib Razak has asked the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) to review the security system along the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) to make it impenetrable to enemies. The Prime Minister said the latest intrusion on a holiday resort on Pulau Mabul, Semporna, last night, revealed that there were weaknesses in the location of personnel and security planning on the ground. “I am asking Esscom to review their security system in detail. “If there are not enough personnel, then the number has to be increased,” he told reporters after attending a briefing on Pahang’s development at Wisma Sri Pahang today. Najib was commenting on the latest intrusion in Semporna, Sabah, yesterday, which resulted in the death of a marine policeman and the disappearance of another, who is believed to have been kidnapped by the gunmen. In the 11.10pm incident, Corporal Ab Rajah Jamuan, 32, was killed, while his colleague, Constable Zakian Aleip, 26, went missing after a security team was ambushed by a group of eight armed men at a resort on Pulau Mabul. Najib also said that the new Esscom commander would be responsible for revamping the security system, with changes in the location of the security personnel. Najib went on to describe the threats by various groups from the southern Philippines as serious and ordered police to take appropriate action, including investigating the parties responsible for yesterday’s incident. He did not dismiss the possibility of local residents acting as accomplices by identifying security forces. “That is why they (gunmen) move during the night or at specific times because they get very detailed information about the movements of our forces. This is a serious threat.” Read more: http://ift.tt/1sd4pPH
