Wang bukan untuk Palestin

KUCHING: Isu mengenai kutipan derma, khasnya untuk penduduk Gaza akan dibawa ke Kabinet Sarawak sebagai aktitivi yang sedang berkembang di negara ini.

Timbalan Menteri di Jabatan Ketua Menteri (Hal Ehwal Agama) Daud Abdul Rahman berkata isu berkenaan sangat serius kerana ia membabitkan penipuan dengan menggunakan nama penduduk Palestin yang menderita.

“Ini mungkin melangkaui kuasa saya (Hal Ehwal Islam) tetapi ia berkait rapat dengan sebahagian besar penderma Muslim yang ditipu. Mereka fikir mereka sedang menderma kepada penduduk Palestin di Gaza,” kata beliau.

Beliau takut aktiviti terbabit akan membawa salah faham di antara penderma yang jujur.

Pada masa yang sama, beliau menggesa kepada mereka yang berniat untuk menderma supaya melakukannya melalui saluran yang sah seperti ‘Aman Palestin’ atau ‘Ehsan Palestin’.

“Mereka yang menderma akan dikecualikan dari cukai. Jangan menderma kepada mana-mana kumpulan atau organisasi yang anda tidak biasa dengan atau tidak pasti kerana mereka yang tidak bertanggungjawab akan menggunakannya demi kepentingan mereka sendiri,” kata beliau.

Beliau juga menggesa pihak berkuasa untuk lebih berjaga-jaga mengenai aktiviti kutipan derma yang tidak sah danmengambil tindakan yang sepatutnya.

Baru-baru ini, beberapa kumpulan bertindak membuat kutipan derma secara terbuka untuk membantu penduduk Palestin Gaza di pasaraya dan beberapa tempat awam di Kuching, Miri, Bintulu dan bandar lain di dalam negeri.

Antara kumpulan yang terbabit adalah ‘Yayasan Hang Tawi Malaysia’ yang diharamkan di Semenanjung Malaysia kerana mereka tidak mempunyai permit yang sekarang sangat aktif beroperasi di dalam negeri.

Media Statement: MERCY Malaysia's Immediate Response to the People in Gaza, Palestine

KUALA LUMPUR, 11 July 2014 – MERCY Malaysia will be providing immediate response to the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip by providing medical supplies including essential medicines, surgical sutures, medical disposables and equipment to local hospitals and medical centres. MERCY Malaysia will be working with its long term local partners, Al-Emaar Society, El-Wafa Rehabilitation Team and Palestinian Orphans Home Association to provide much needed medical assistance as well as to assess other needs of the affected population such as food and nutritional needs.

The population of Palestine is estimated to be 1,816,379 are currently being attacked by Israel since Monday, 7 July 2014.  ‘Operation Protective Edge’ was launched by the Israeli Defense Forces towards the Gaza Strip with more than 440 air, artillery  and rocket  attacks within 24 hours  which has killed 90 Palestinians (2/3 of them are women and children under 15 years) and more than 500 people  have been  injured.  MERCY Malaysia’s Country Coordinator, Dr Khamis Elessi witnessed the intensity of the barrage and air-strikes which has been increasing since Monday and shows no signs of abating.

Due to this worsening situation, MERCY Malaysia has activated its “Palestine Relief Fund” and is collaborating with Media Prima Berhad to raise fund for the affected population in the Gaza Strip.  MERCY Malaysia is urging Malaysian’s to support its efforts to provide assistance to those in need. MERCY Malaysia welcomes any parties interested to collaborate with us for this appeal.

Six siblings face difficult times after mum disappears - The Rakyat Post

Six siblings in Taman Cempedak, Tasek Gelugor, here, have sunk into the depths of misery since their father succumbed to a stroke two years ago.

Their mother, who remarried a drug addict, has also disappeared since January.

Noor Hamizah Basir, 22, who is the eldest of the six siblings, said she was now forced to take over as head of the family to support her younger siblings by working as a clerk in a factory.

“Last January, my mother (who has become a drug addict herself) and her husband were arrested by police.

“We have failed to keep track of their whereabouts although there was news that she had been released,” she told reporters at her home here today.

She said with an income of about RM900 a month, it was not enough to cover all their expenses as she also had to pay for a home loan of RM220 per month in her mother’ name, in addition to paying the utility bills.

Noor Hamizah said her sister Noor Syazwanizzah, 21, was working at a supermarket nearby, but her income was just enough for her personal use.

“My income is not enough as I also bear the expenses of my four other siblings, who are studying, namely Muhammad Nasrul, 19, who is studying at the National Youth Skills Institute in Bukit Mertajam, and a fourth sibling, Noor Syamimi, 16, who is in Form Four.

“The fifth sibling, Noor Syazana, nine, is studying in Year Three, while my youngest brother, Muhammad Adam, five, is still in kindergarten.”

Their late father was a retired Public Works Department employee and has a pension, but the money can only be withdrawn by their 41-year-old mother.

“I worry what will happen if any of my siblings fall sick. Where will I go for money to take them to the clinic or buy medicine?

“Prior to this, our home was almost auctioned off by the bank for not paying the instalments and the electricity was also cut.

“Luckily, our uncle and aunt helped us, but I do not want to impose on them any more as they also have to pay for their own expenses.”

Noor Hamizah hoped her mother would return home to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri together with them because the youngest one really missed her.

Tasek Gelugor Member of Parliament Datuk Shabudin Yahaya, who visited the six siblings, said they could be adopted to ensure they got proper attention.

For a start, he handed over a cash assistance of RM1,700 to the six siblings to prepare for Aidilfitri and as expenses for daily essentials.

“I will also bring this case to the attention of the Social Welfare Department in the hope they can get a monthly living assistance to ease their burden.”
