KUCHING: Isu mengenai kutipan derma, khasnya untuk penduduk Gaza akan dibawa ke Kabinet Sarawak sebagai aktitivi yang sedang berkembang di negara ini.

Timbalan Menteri di Jabatan Ketua Menteri (Hal Ehwal Agama) Daud Abdul Rahman berkata isu berkenaan sangat serius kerana ia membabitkan penipuan dengan menggunakan nama penduduk Palestin yang menderita.

“Ini mungkin melangkaui kuasa saya (Hal Ehwal Islam) tetapi ia berkait rapat dengan sebahagian besar penderma Muslim yang ditipu. Mereka fikir mereka sedang menderma kepada penduduk Palestin di Gaza,” kata beliau.

Beliau takut aktiviti terbabit akan membawa salah faham di antara penderma yang jujur.

Pada masa yang sama, beliau menggesa kepada mereka yang berniat untuk menderma supaya melakukannya melalui saluran yang sah seperti ‘Aman Palestin’ atau ‘Ehsan Palestin’.

“Mereka yang menderma akan dikecualikan dari cukai. Jangan menderma kepada mana-mana kumpulan atau organisasi yang anda tidak biasa dengan atau tidak pasti kerana mereka yang tidak bertanggungjawab akan menggunakannya demi kepentingan mereka sendiri,” kata beliau.

Beliau juga menggesa pihak berkuasa untuk lebih berjaga-jaga mengenai aktiviti kutipan derma yang tidak sah danmengambil tindakan yang sepatutnya.

Baru-baru ini, beberapa kumpulan bertindak membuat kutipan derma secara terbuka untuk membantu penduduk Palestin Gaza di pasaraya dan beberapa tempat awam di Kuching, Miri, Bintulu dan bandar lain di dalam negeri.

Antara kumpulan yang terbabit adalah ‘Yayasan Hang Tawi Malaysia’ yang diharamkan di Semenanjung Malaysia kerana mereka tidak mempunyai permit yang sekarang sangat aktif beroperasi di dalam negeri.

The two teachers in Penang who were involved in the controversy surrounding a Form Five student who allegedly "liked" a pro-Israel page on Facebook are not being let off the hook yet, despite apologising to the student's family.

They have been asked to report to the Penang education department next week and explain themselves.

The teachers on Friday apologised to the student's family for making the incident public on Facebook and openly condemning the boy.

Education department director Osman Hussain, however, said that was not the end of it.
"They will have to give me an explanation each for their actions, and to state reasons why they should not be transferred out to another school.

"If a teacher fails to follow the SOP (standard operating procedures) in solving a problem, he or she can be transferred out," he told The Malaysian Insider today.

The first teacher posted about her student liking the “I Love Israel” page on her own Facebook page, which soon attracted other Facebook users to condemn and threaten the boy online.

The second teacher posted a comment that the 17-year-old should be boycotted for supporting Israel.

Osman confirmed that both teachers apologised to the boy and his parents yesterday during a meeting held at the school in Taman Tasek Mutiara, Simpang Ampat, on mainland Penang.

"The apology was just one way of resolving this. The two teachers still have to see me next week and give me their explanations."

He said both teachers violated the civil service general order, which states that civil servants are not allowed to make public statements or talk to the media about their work without authorisation.

He said making a statement about their work, or in this case their student, openly on a  social network site is considered a violation of the general order.

"What they did is considered wrong and with that, the department can already take disciplinary action against them. But we are still using our discretion here.

"If this goes into their records permanently, their career advancement chances can be jeopardised," he said.

He said it is important that the incident concerning the teachers be dealt with seriously, as he feared that it could also affect unity.

"We must make sure our teachers understand that they are not to discuss or circulate comments about their work and their students publicly, no matter how good or bad their students are. If they have something to say, do it in school.

"We want this to be a lesson and an example to other teachers so something like this will not happen again... If teachers want to use Facebook, then they should refrain from posting about work and student-related matters."

The teenager learned that he had received threats, including one that suggested he should be burned, after his teacher posted on her Facebook about his alleged “like”.

He lodged a police report about it, saying he never “liked” the pro-Israel Facebook page and did not know what had happened.

After word of what he allegedly did on Facebook got around, the boy was afraid to return to school.

When he did, he found himself shunned by some of his schoolmates and teachers for a few days.

The teen is being investigated for sedition, while those who threatened him on Facebook are probed for criminal intimidation. – August 16, 2014.

GAZA CITY - Eight-year-old Mariam Alejla was sitting outside the entrance to Gaza’s biggest hospital, Shifa. Her leg was bandaged and she had a drip tube in her arm - but that's not why she was there.

The moment she saw this correspondent, she insisted on pulling me to an area behind the surgical department. “Come and see my mum and siblings… our home has been bombed,” she said.

Her mum, Umm Nidal Alejla, 47, was lying on a mattress she recovered from a damaged home just behind the surgical building. She was tending to a kettle heated by a small fire.

The family home - for all 20 of them - was a makeshift tent with random pieces of cloth; a Shifa-Hospital printed bed sheet, and pieces of nylon.

“We ran to UN school shelters, but were told, ‘You should have come earlier’” she said.

But it wasn’t a question of leaving earlier - the day the Alejla family decided to leave their home was dictated by the timing of Israeli bombs. She says she did her best to stay indoors until it simply became too dangerous to stay. 

After two of her children were injured two weeks ago, she fled her home under Israeli bombardment. Since then she has been able to find anywhere to stay but Shifa hospital, among thousands of other Gazans.

Shifa Hospital external clinic has also been attacked, but Alejla and hundreds more would rather be here than in an overcrowded school classroom – they are well aware what happened in Jabaliya.

“We only ask mercy from Allah” she says, as she prepares four mattresses for another night’s sleep. Mariam disconnects her IV to sleep closer to her mum - she says it’s the only place she feels safe.

“It is cold at night, and we have two blankets to share between us all”, Mariam says, as her older brother tucks himself into “bed”.

Ambulance sirens call out - Mariam says that initially the children were keen to see who or what was on board, but now they are all familiar with the sound, and terrible sights of what they bring to the hospital.

“We lost everything in the house, all the cupboard contents were completely destroyed” Umm Nidal says, as her daughter Nida’a rinses mud out of the other children’s clothes. 

The mother wants at least a real tent that she could erect near the ruins of her home.

“We are like beggars here, I can’t cope with all the children as some get sick, like the children inside the hospital” she says, pointing to four children showing symptoms of some acute stomach pain and skin irritation.

Her daughter Nida’a Alejla, 24, summarizes the story of many. “Everyday I have pains in my stomach. The doctors told me it’s from the overcrowding, lack of hygiene and clean drinking water.”

Unlike those sheltered in UNRWA schools, which are aid distribution points, the refugees at Shifa Hospital have received no aid so far.

The children and their mum survive on donations from people passing by on their way to buy a little bread, cheese and thyme, which they use to make tea. “That’s our breakfast, lunch and dinner” she said.

“I just ask Allah for some peace, so we can eat bread and salt on the ruins of what remains of our home”, said Umm Nidal.

In another tent nearby, sits Mervat Shanan, 22. She gave birth to a daughter yesterday, who is yet to be named by the family.

The baby is one of 4,500 new babies in Gaza born during the same period that around 2,000 Palestinians were killed, according to the Interior Ministry in Gaza. 

Before coming to this cloth hut, Shanan lived with her husband, three other children and his 10 siblings, including his parents in a simple home north of Gaza Strip, close to the American School, before an Israeli tank shell and Drone missile hit their home, causing massive damage.

“During the last war, in 2012, an Israeli missile killed my daughter inside her bedroom. She was one-week old”.

This time, together with her husband Atta Shanan, 22, Mervat made the decision to keep the children safe by leaving the frontline where Israeli missiles struck most areas. He had thought that the American school would be an ideal shelter, but he saw that it was also hit.

“When the ceasefire began, we ran back to check our home, but found everything burned” says Atta Shanan.

Afterwards, he returned to the school class, but found it occupied by another family - he did not want to make trouble, but dragged his family and ran to all other schools, but found no free space. Now, his only place is also Shifa Hospital.

Shanan is one of 450,000 Gazans who fled their homes with nowhere else to go, unlike other war zones where some borders are open, Gaza is locked in, under Israeli siege by land, sea and air and Egypt only opens Rafah border-sporadically- to those with foreign-national passports.

Now his sisters have nowhere to sleep - everyone is squashed into a room no bigger than the garbage skip outside the gates of Shifa Hospital.

Night begins, the temperature drops and the Shanan family sleep close together to keep warm, before the hot day comes again. In this place, the mum breastfeeds, the children sleep, the mother slices bread and cheese, and the father pokes his head through a torn bedsheet to smoke.

At times, he sits outside the tent just to get some cool air - for everyone sleep is difficult while the hospital stays noisy and busy.

“It’s tough because we can’t just walk in to the surgical unit, to fill a bottle of water” he says, while carrying his 2 day-old baby.

His three daughters haven’t showered for over 20 days - “we tried to use facilities inside the hospital but we know that the patients with severe injuries are priority” he says as he hands over his small baby to his wife, and start to tuck his daughters in together under a thin blanket that separates them from the hard floor.

“We sleep side by side to protect each other. This is another dark period which will pass” he adds.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13, 2014:

The father of the Form Five student, who was threatened by teachers to be burnt alive, has expressed his worry after the boy was allegedly spat upon in school yesterday.

Kovalan Mariappan, the father of the student from a school in Penang, said he would still continue sending his son to school despite several students targeting his son.

“Yesterday, one student spat on my son’s hand while another student was mistakenly beaten up after several students mistook that boy for my son,” Kovalan told to The Rakyat Post when contacted today.

“I just want this matter to be resolved immediately with the teachers issuing a public apology and explaining the truth during the school assembly about my son.”

Kovalan said his son did not like the pro-Israeli Facebook page as claimed and that the teachers had overreacted.

“As educators, this is definitely not the way to educate students.”

The Aug 10 incident, led a teacher to screen capture and upload the image depicting the boy liking an “I love Israel” page without the boy’s consent.

Two other teachers commented calling for a boycott over the student with one suggesting to burn the boy alive.

“I’m now worried about how he is going to focus on his studies as he has only two more months left before his Sijil Penilaian Menengah (SPM) examination.”

Kovalan said his son had given statements to the police yesterday, with police set to investigate the three teachers for issuing threats and the student for liking the Facebook page.

The boy will be investigated under Section 4 (1) (a) of the Sedition Act.

Kovalan is awaiting response from the state Education Department and will be heading to meet the headmaster of the school tomorrow.

NIBONG TEBAL, Aug 13, 2014:

A Form Five student here is being investigated under the Sedition Act after he was said to press the “Like” button of a “I Love Israel” page on Facebook, causing controversy in his school.

“The student has turned up to give his statement to the police at the South Seberang Prai and so did the teacher yesterday.

“Other students and teachers would also be called in to give their statements,” said Abdul Rahim at the South Seberang Prai district police headquarters Hari Raya open house last night.

The student, he said, is being investigated under Section 4 (1) (a) of the Sedition Act.

The student had reportedly lodged a police report at the Tasek Mutiara police station after he was said to have feared attending school following alleged threats from teachers and students for having liked the Facebook page.

Abdul Rahim said that the student claimed he had accidentally clicked “Like” on that page.

Following that, the teacher in the school was said to have expressed disappointment in the student followed by comments that the student should be burnt to death.

The student then went to lodge the police report, fearing for his safety and had also deactivated his Facebook account.

Seberang Prai South district police chief ACP Shafein Mamat  said that investigations would continue today with more teachers and students from the school called in to give their statement.

“There will be two aspects to the investigation; the first is to investigate why the student had liked the page which had sparked argument and dissatisfaction and the second part is to investigate the threats he had received,” he added.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met this morning with International Committee of the Red Cross Peter Maurer and told him:

"You can have thousands of reports like that, that shows that what the terrorists are doing is what I told you a year ago. You know, every one of these civilian deaths is a tragedy; we regret every single one. We do not target a single civilian. And when we met here a year ago, I said to you that Hamas is committing a double war crime: It is both targeting civilians and hiding behind civilians, including UN facilities which are not only rocket storage sites, but rocket launching sites and mortar launching sites. So Israel has every right to defend itself, and we are obeying the rules of war, the international code. And those who are responsible for all these tragic civilian deaths are Hamas and Hamas alone."

Prime Minister Netanyahu noted that Israel makes every effort to aid civilian non-combatants in Gaza and added:

"You may know, we’ve put in about 2,000 trucks during the fighting, during the humanitarian ceasefires which we kept and Hamas violated. We’ve opened a field hospital which Hamas – right next to Gaza in order to assist the wounded, the Palestinian wounded. Hamas prevents people from coming in. We’re fixing fuel lines, electricity lines for Gaza during the fighting, water supply – during the fighting, as best as we can. Hamas has been the one that’s been deliberately stopping that, so it’s actually a triple thing that they’re doing. They’re not only firing on our civilians, not only hiding behind their civilians and accruing as much civilian deaths as they can pile up, because that’s what they want for the PR game against Israel, but also I think that they've done something else and that's to prevent and refuse humanitarian assistance that Israel itself offered for their own people. And I think when you put it all together, you understand that there is a deliberate strategy here and that is to have Hamas – Hamas – inflict as much civilian damage as they can on their own people as part of a deliberate strategy to try to have Israel accused in international public opinion.

Now, if international law and the international code basically surrenders to this policy and to this tactic, what it means is that terrorists that are embedded in dense urban populations are firing rockets at neighboring countries, democracies like Israel, and then get Israel or the democracies to be accused when it takes legitimate action against them, that means that democracies and the law-abiding states are absolutely defenseless. What is at stake here is not merely Israel's ability and legitimate right of self-defense; it's the ability of all civilized countries and all democracies to defend themselves because this test case is not only about Israel. What happens here will happen for everyone. Now it may seem farfetched to you, but it's not. This will be everywhere, everywhere you have radicalized Islamic terrorist communities and movements, you will have this phenomenon. The issue here is not merely Israel's right of self-defense, but the right of self-defense of all civilized countries against this barbarism."

Hamas leaders are facing criticism inside and outside of Gaza for enjoying a comfortable lifestyle while Gazans suffer.

Hamas leaders have been often seen in recent days talking about the suffering of the residents of Gaza. But while most Palestinians are faced with shortages and restrictions on movement in the Gaza Strip, this is far from the case for officials from Hamas, which has been the de facto ruler there since throwing out political rivals Fatah in 2007.

As reported recently in Ynet, Hamas has millions in assets, and it seems that the wealth extends to day-to-day life as well as investments and fat bank accounts. For them, life is about private jets and luxury, not war planes and hunger.

But as the IDF's Operation Protective Edge, triggered by Hamas rocket fire on Israel, continues, more and more voices can be heard inside and outside of Gaza attacking the movement and its leaders' ostentatious lifestyle.

On Sunday, Egyptian officials sharply criticized Hamas political leader Khaled Mashal, stating that "while the Hamas leadership lives in luxury hotels, it is abandoning the innocent Palestinian people, who are being killed in their dozens."

These claims are just the attacks - unprecedented in their intensity – directed at Mashal, Hamas leader in Gaza Ismail Haniyeh, and the Hamas leadership outside the country, mostly by groups aligned to Egyptian President Abdel-Fatah al-Sisi.

According to sources in Hamas, the movement's leadership abroad was one of the opponents to the Egyptian initiative for a ceasefire in Gaza, while the leadership in the Strip, which is closer to the Gazan citizens, was more inclined to accept. But now, as part of the criticism against Hamas, old photos have resurfaced of Mashal in Qatar, exercising in the gym, playing tennis, watching TV and dining at a restaurant with full table in front of him.

There is even a new Twitter campaign entitled "No hello and no welcome, Khaled Mashal", directed against the Hamas political chief, which places images of Mashal in the gym against a background of Palestinian children killed by the IDF.

One of the most prominent voices in this protest is Egyptian journalist Ahmad Musa, who is a clear al-Sisi supporter. On one of his recent programs for the "Sda al-Balad" channel , Musa presented the same images of Mashal working out in Qatar, and reminded the Hamas leader that, "the jihad is in Gaza." Then, with the image of Mashal on an exercise bike in the background, Musa said: "This is the jihad before the meal to break the (Ramadan) fast. Before the meal he does sports, then he eats the honored meal, then he closely follows the television."

Then the Egyptian broadcaster posed a challenge to the Hamas political wing: "If you're a man and a hero, tomorrow get on the first plane and enter the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing. Your followers in Gaza will greet you and get you into hiding with Ismail Haniyeh."

He then showed pictures of Haniyeh playing soccer, and mockingly called it jihad for Allah.

Another Hamas official who has in recent years carefully documented his travels around the world is Haniyeh adviser Taher a-Nunu, who recently served as spokesman for the organization. In photos he posted on social networks, you can see him at one of the upper floors of a Qatar hotel, or on a "hunting trip" off the Gaza coast.

Even a year ago, when the images of Mashal in the gym first emerged, some did praise him for keeping in shape, but there were also less enthusiastic comments.

"What's with all the air conditioners and the exercise machines, when the Palestinian people can't even get enough to eat?" one commenter wondered sarcastically. "Are these machines he took with him from Syria, or is it actually new funding from Qatar?"

The Hamas political leadership under Mashal relocated from Damascus to Qatar with the outbreak of the civil war in Syria, which created a rift between Hamas and Iran and its other allies Syria and Hezbollah, against a backdrop of statements by Hamas officials in favor of the Syrian rebels.

At the same time, Hamas' opponents renewed their attacks on the group, claiming it received its orders from Qatar and Turkey, and was actually a carbon copy of Muslim Brotherhood. After Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood president Mohamed Morsi was deposed, the criticism against Mashal and his associates has only increased.

Seorang koperal polis Malaysia, 7 warga Filipina didakwa – Ceroboh Lahad Datu

 

Polis merahsiakan kes Kpl Hasan Basri sejak pencerobohan bermula sehinggalah hari ini beliau di dakwa secara rasmi. Admin akan kaji pertuduhan seksyen 130M. Beliau hanya dituduh belum dibuktikan bersalah harap keadilan untuk beliau dan juga mangsa Lahad Datu termasuk yg utama pihak pasukan polis sendiri.  

Tujuh warga selatan Filipina hari ini didakwa di Mahkamah Majistret yang bersidang khas di Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah Lahad Datu atas pertuduhan melancarkan perang terhadap Yang di-Pertuan Agong dan menjadi ahli kumpulan pengganas.

Tiada pengakuan direkodkan daripada tujuh lelaki berumur lingkungan 20-an hingga 63 tahun itu ketika pertuduhan dibacakan di hadapan Hakim Mahkamah Sesyen Lahad Datu, Rajalingam a/l S.S.Maniam yang bersidang sebagai Majistret.

Pertuduhan asal dalam bahasa Melayu diterjemah ke dalam dua bahasa iaitu Bajau dan Suluk.

Lima tertuduh didakwa terhadap dua pertuduhan iaitu melancarkan perang ke atas Yang di-Pertuan Agong mengikut Seksyen 121 Kanun Keseksaan yang membawa hukuman mati dan menjadi ahli kumpulan pengganas di bawah Seksyen 130KA kanun sama yang membawa hukuman penjara seumur hidup dan boleh didenda jika sabit kesalahan.

Seorang lagi tertuduh menghadapi empat pertuduhan mengikut Seksyen 121, 130KA dan Seksyen 130E iaitu merekrut orang sebagai ahli kumpulan pengganas atau untuk menyertai perbuatan pengganas yang membawa hukuman penjara maksimum 30 tahun dan boleh didenda dan Seksyen 130K iaitu melindungi orang yang melakukan perbuatan pengganas yang membawa hukuman penjara seumur hidup dan boleh didenda atau penjara maksimum 20 tahun dan boleh denda jika sabit kesalahan.

Seorang lagi tertuduh pula menghadapi satu pertuduhan mengikut Seksyen 130KA.

Pendakwaan diketuai Ketua Unit Pendakwaan Sabah Jamil Aripin dan Timbalan Pendakwa Raya Lahad Datu Shukor Abu Bakar.

Mahkamah juga membenarkan permohonan pihak pendakwaan mengikut Seksyen 177A (2) Kanun Acara Jenayah bagi memindahkan kes itu ke Mahkamah Tinggi Tawau.

Bagaimanapun tiada tarikh ditetapkan untuk sebutan kes itu di Mahkamah Tinggi.

Sementara itu seorang anggota polis berpangkat Koperal [ Kpl Hasan Basri] juga didakwa di tempat sama Jumaat lepas mengikut Seksyen 130M iaitu dengan sengaja meninggalkan daripada memberi maklumat mengenai tindakan pengganas, yang membawa hukuman penjara maksimum tujuh tahun atau denda atau kedua-duanya jika sabit kesalahan.

Ini menjadikan sehingga hari ini 16 orang didakwa di mahkamah.

Pada 20 Mac lepas, lapan warga Filipina didakwa di tempat sama mengikut Seksyen 121 dan Seksyen 130KA dan sehari selepas itu kes berkenaan disebut di Mahkamah Tinggi Tawau.

Kes itu akan disebut semula di Mahkamah Tinggi 12 April ini bagi mengetahui perkembangan perbincangan Peguam Negara dengan Persatuan Undang-Undang Sabah, Majlis Peguam dan kerajaan Filipina berhubung khidmat guaman yang akan diberikan kepada tertuduh.
