Media organisations especially the mainstream media must deliver more balanced news in order to attract the younger generation. Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, chief executive officer of the Global Movement of Moderates (GMM), said among the factors the younger generation preferred to read online news was because they were more comprehensive. "We understand that each media organisation has its own stand about what they need to provide readers. But if they are only focused on one channel, then they will not get the ratings from the younger generation. "In the context of the media in Malaysia today, online media is more balanced, but we worry that if this continues, it would be a loss to the government as it controls the mainstream media," he said. He was speaking to reporters after attending a roundtable discussion on “Expressing Moderation” organised by the GMM in Petaling Jaya today. Saifuddin added that the mainstream media should include more news which were closer to the people such as those on human interest and sustainable environment. He added that media which was moderate would not result in a loss in their organisation but would instead increase its readership and profits to the company. – Bernama, April 17, 2015.
